Hold Off Planting Veggies Or Flowers For Awhile Longer

The Village

“Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh, what a beautiful day”… as the song goes ... On Tuesday morning, the temperature is already at 66 degrees. Everyone I talk with cautions me about planting veggies or flowers now, although I can hardly wait. My hubby (Bill) and I went ahead and bought some herbs and some tomato plants this week and we have left them in the pots for now, and we bring them in at night. Hopefully we will have a head start and hardening off a bit before we plant them.

Hellsgate Fire Department

A flag raising ceremony has been scheduled for Tuesday April 15 at Hellsgate Fire Station #21 in Star Valley beginning at 10 a.m. The ceremony is to honor firefighter Lieutenant Bobby Mollere and former fire board chairman Larry Cory, both of whom passed away recently. The ceremony will be open to the public.

Hellsgate Fireflies Auxiliary

To all interested ladies: A Fireflies meeting has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 11 at Fire Station #22 in Tonto Village.

The auxiliary is vital to the firefighters for the fund-raising events that are normally scheduled for Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The auxiliary needs some fresh new ideas for raising money for the new fire station in the Village. Everyone is invited to come to the meeting and check out the upcoming events.

Shelby School

On the afternoon of Saturday, April 5, 10 students of the Shelby School Girl Scout Troop 397 joined their neighbor troops to attend their annual Scouting gala tea party. The Payson Senior Center catered and hosted the event, treating the girls and their mothers to cupcakes fashioned to look like fancy high heels and seating them at tables decorated with fancy high-heel centerpieces. It was a lovely celebration, complete with the traditional making of fancy paper hats. The next big event for the girls is their weekend camp-out, scheduled for the end of April. Among those attending were Gabriella Driver, Tara Ramirez, Vogue Tanenhaus, Caylinn McCarthy and Harley Lidster.

This month of April is pretty scarce for birthdays. The only one is for Hellsgate firefighter John Jackson. He will add another year on April 14. John has been temporarily assigned to station #22 in Tonto Village. John has been very helpful to the Dominos group by having the room warmed up with the heater and the coffee pot on. His efforts are greatly appreciated. Happy birthday, John.

Recipe for the week

This recipe may come in handy for leftover Easter candy. Leftover Snickers bars make a delicious dessert. Simply chop them up with a food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream.

Another recipe for the Easter season:

Easy Deviled Eggs

Put cooked egg yolks in a plastic zip-top bag.

Seal, mash till they are all broken up.

Add remainder ingredients of your choice, reseal and keep mashing, mixing thoroughly.

Cut the tip of the plastic bag, squeeze mixture into eggs. Just throw the bag away when done. What an easy cleanup.
