This year’s Annual Business Showcase was a box office hit — a blockbuster. The theme “You Ought’a Be in Pictures” allowed exhibitors creative leverage, taking the showcase to a whole new level.
Chitwood’s Cabinets brought in an entire kitchen display and themed their booth as “That 70’s Show.” Rim Country Health was a favorite, using the “Wizard of Oz” theme; staff members were dressed as the wizard, Dorothy and the good and bad witches. State Farm was a favorite as well, decked out in the “Duck Dynasty” theme. Hospice Compassus took attendees down memory lane with film strips featuring past patients, old movie paraphernalia and their staff was dressed in 1940s attire.
It was an absolutely fun and spirited day with lots of picture taking and interaction between exhibitors and attendees, according to Christy VanderMolen of Payson Care Center. The free event drew more than 800 people.
The overall winners of the Business Showcase included:
• Best in Show - Smart Systems, Inc., with “Pirates of the Caribbean” — the show-stopping favorite displayed huge treasure maps, treasure chests and the staff were all decked out in pirate costumes. The overall theme of the booth was “Avoiding Computer Piracy.”
• Best Theme - Mazatzal Hotel and Casino displayed a huge Hollywood scene backdrop and featured Hollywood icons, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable. The booth displayed many of the services and events they offer the community using film accessories.
• Showcase Favorite - Payson Care Center capitalized on its win of the Best Long-term Care Award four years in a row by rolling out the red carpet. The booth included a red carpet backdrop where participants had their picture taken.
• Peoples Choice - Smart Systems, Inc. The business’ second award for the day — What can we say? People loved their booth.
Other participants at the showcase included Active Digital Signage, Coldwell Banker Bishop Realty, Chapman Auto Center, Chitwood’s Cabinets, Chris Smith Investments, Desert Dentistry, Desert Schools Federal Credit Union, Jackson White Attorneys at Law, KC’s Home Health Care, Northern Energy, Payson Regional Home Health, Prudential Arizona Realty, Ruff Roofing, Inc., The Local Pages, Valley Imaging Solutions, Soroptimist International of Zane Grey Country, sponsored by Payson Realty, Tonto Rim Search and Rescue, sponsored by the Payson Roundup and the Payson Police and Fire Departments and Payson Ranger District.
The Student Showcase winners this year were: Payson Education Center, first, for $100; and the Payson High School Key Club, second, for $75.
Attendees also enjoyed awards of their own — a prize was drawn every hour and there were two grand prize drawings. The second grand prize was a state-of-the-art Dell Venue Windows 8.1 8-inch tablet provided by Smart Systems and the first grand prize was a 42-inch flat screen TV provided by the Rim Country Chamber.
Showcase attendee Donn Morris said, “It was the best ever showcase — more enthusiasm, great space layout, great theme, a quality show!” Barbara Underwood said, “It was more professional than other shows; a great show.”
The chamber extended thanks to all the participants, especially Darla Harger of the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino for her hard work and help in making both the Chamber Mixer and the Showcase a success, and to sponsor Payson Regional Medical Center.
