The new Star Valley park was officially named for one of the young community’s founders at the April 15 meeting of the town council.
The park is now the Diane McDaniel Community Park, Mayor Ronnie McDaniel’s deceased wife. He abstained from the otherwise unanimous vote to honor her memory for all the work she did to incorporate Star Valley and support the community.
The grand opening of the park will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 14. Mayor McDaniel and Town Manager Tim Grier will prepare hot dogs and hamburgers for the event.
A couple of weeks later, the Diane McDaniel Community Park will host the first Star Valley Business Rally. Organizer Susie Johnson told the council about 20 businesses say they’ll participate. She is contacting other businesses to have a firm number by May 1. Star Valley will contribute $2,000 to help present the event at its April 1 meeting.
In other business:
• The council agreed to contribute $900 to the Payson Pro-Rodeo Committee for its 2014 Gary Hardt Memorial Rodeo, sponsoring the tie-down roping event and the spurs for the event’s winner, plus an arena banner.
• Star Valley approved a 15-year extension of its contract with Redflex Traffic Systems for the photo enforcement program. However, if the state bans speed cameras the town can cancel the contract.
