Elks to make donations

The Payson Elks Lodge will be presenting non-perishable food items to the Pine/Strawberry Food Bank and the Presbyterian Food Bank, socks and underwear for school children to Katie’s Closet, and a cash donation to the Gracie Lee Haught Foundation at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. Please come to the Lodge and show your support to not only the Payson Elks Lodge but to these other organizations as well.

Tickets are now available at the bar for the Saturday, Aug. 23 Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser. They are only $8 and dinner will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the door.  From 5 to 8 p.m., dance to the music of “Dakota Kid.”

Tickets for the Oct. 4 Superstars event are now on sale at the bar.  This event is open to the public and will sell out fast. Tickets are sold by meal: Choice of Baked Tuscan Chicken or Papa T’s Baked Lasagna for $20 each.

Aglow International meets Aug. 23

The local Aglow International chapter of Christian women will be hosting their quarterly meeting on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Crossroads Church Fellowship Hall, 114 E. Cedar Lane in Payson.

Women of Rim Country are invited to attend to hear our Northern Area President, Joy Mosely, share about new focuses for the Aglow Ministry following a recent national leadership training. The title of Saturday’s message will be “Identify from Heaven’s Perspective” which will include updates from the “Life Changers” meeting. Bring a friend, come early for light snacks and be prepared for an encouraging word about what God is doing world wide through the women of Aglow International.

Payson Lions Club

Payson Lions Charitable Foundation and its parent Payson Lions Club serve Rim Country by conducting service and fund-raising projects to help those in need of eye exams and eyeglasses as well as hearing exams and hearing aids.

Membership in Lions is open to all adults interested in giving something back to their community. Ideas for improving our community are welcome. Bridge results

Ladies Tuesday Bridge winners for Aug. 19 were: Mary Kemp, first; Rowena Cole, second; Lori Nelson, third.

We play at 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday at Majestic Rim, 310 E. Tyler Parkway in Payson. Area residents and guests are welcome. Please call Marilyn Castleman at 474-6134 for reservations and information.

Rim Country Optimist Club

The Rim Country Optimist Club works in a variety of ways to help youth in the community. All visitors are welcome to attend meetings and events.

Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at the Cedar Ridge Restaurant at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino starting at 5:15 p.m. The next meeting is Aug. 25 and a member will be speaking about her other types of involvement in the community.

The business meeting will be held following dinner and speaker. The group’s next big event, is the very popular Falling Leaves Fashioneesta Nov. 8. Proceeds will be used to help the Christian Clinic provide health care for children ages 0 to 17 who don’t have health insurance.

Payson Area Singles

We are a social group for men and women of all ages. We have no dues and no pressure.

Get out of the house and join us for our weekly breakfast at Tiny’s on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Come find out what activities are planned or suggest something new.

We are currently planning a Chili Cook-Off, Halloween party and a Christmas party.

Moose Lodge events

The Loyal Order of the Moose meetings are at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. The Women of the Moose meet at 6 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month.

The lodge has a Thursday Fish Fry from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and weekly dinner specials are available.

NARFE meeting Aug. 27

The Mogollon Chapter 1235 of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will hold their monthly no host luncheon and meeting on Aug. 27. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. at Tiny’s Restaurant on Highway 260.

This month’s guest speaker will be Suzie Tubbs, Director of Fire Wise. All active and retired federal employees are invited to attend. Any new member will receive a free lunch. Please remember the Payson Food Bank and bring non-perishable food items.

Kaitie’s Closet

Kaitie’s Closet is a nonprofit  501(c)3 organization collecting clothes for  free distribution to those in need in Rim Country.  Everyone in Rim Country needing children’s clothing is welcome.

The next Kaitie’s Closet’s distribution will be from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 at Rim Country Middle School, 304 S. Meadow.

Kaitie’s Closet recently had a New Shoe Drive and we wish to thank the community for their generous donations. Parents, be sure and bring your children to receive new shoes at this distribution.

Rim Country Coalition

The Rim Country Coalition is a group of local agencies and community members whose goal is the prevention of substance misuse/abuse among older adults in the area. The group plans to help “connect seniors in the Rim Country.”

The group meets at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 at The Center (formerly Payson Senior Center) 514 W. Main St. Anyone interested in attending is welcome.
