Traffic often backs up on Labor Day weekend as crowds head out.

Update: At 4:35 p.m., the road was re-opened, but it could take some time for the gaggle of traffic to clear.

Crews are working a wreck south of Payson Friday afternoon that has snarled Labor Day traffic for miles.

The crash, possible involving a travel trailer, occurred some eight miles south of the Highway 188 turnoff and has backed traffic up to milepost 221, according to officers on scene.

The northbound lanes are closed and it is unclear how long it will take to clear up the debris.

I hope it takes three days to get cleaned up.......

I'm with you Don. During these "invasions" I tend crawl into my man cave and not come out until the exodus has headed back out of the area.

You both must have been going somewhere when you landed in Payson. Now you know how the old timers felt. I remember when it took 5 hours to go to Mesa with no traffic and if you did meet a car you stopped and visited. If someone was broke down if there was any traffic they stopped to help. You always had tire patches and a hand pump to fix flats. Oh for the good old days. (:
