High School Wrestling Tournament Rescheduled For Friday-Saturday

The state Division III and IV State Wrestling Tournaments will take place on Friday Feb 14 and Saturday Feb. 15 at Tim’s Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, the Arizona Interscholastic Association announced in a press release Tuesday afternoon. Payson wrestlers will participate in the Division III Tournament.

Last Saturday’s 16 sectional tournaments in four divisions were postponed with the AIA’s investigation into reports of wrestlers with skin infections. The section tournaments are qualifiers for the state tournaments.

Payson wrestlers were scheduled to compete in the Division III Section I Tournament at Winslow on Saturday, Feb. 8, with the top five in each weight class qualifying for the Division III State Tournament, originally scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13 and Friday, Feb. 14.

So the state tournament in Division III and IV will now include rounds originally scheduled as part of the section tournaments.

Meanwhile, the first round of the Division II and IV state tournament will now take place on Saturday, Feb. 15 at their original locations. Winners there will advance to the final state tournament Feb. 21-22 at Tim’s Toyota Center.

The AIA press release said the complete schedule with full details for all divisions will be posted by 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 at http://www.aia365.com/championships/wrestling.

Sports before health. On the tv news tonight the reporter said no games as the drs. had not figured out what was causing the sores. If they go on, all the kids in schools may get it not just the wrestlers. Parents think before you let your kid go.
