Seems Winter Has Passed By Rim Country

The Village

Has winter passed us by and gone on to the middle of the country? The Rim Country has had just a few inches of snow and very mild temperatures compared to most of the United States. How fortunate we are to be living in Arizona.

Our youngest daughter Carolyn lives in Des Moines, Iowa and she said that the temperature was minus 20 degrees Monday and that school was canceled both Monday and Tuesday, but she still had to go to work, but only for half a day.

I can remember living in New York and Pennsylvania and the temperature would dip to 0 degrees, and if you ventured outside, the hairs in your nose would freeze. I cannot imagine minus 20 to minus 50 degrees weather and what it would feel like to be outside.

I realize that this is only January and we have a few more months to go with the possibility of snow and ice and rainy weather, but it surely will not be anything like the middle of the country is experiencing.

Hellsgate Fire Department

Firefighters, don’t forget the Firewise Association class put on by the state of Arizona. The class will be held this weekend, Jan. 11 and 12 at fire station 21 in Star Valley. Call Janell at the Star Valley fire station to sign up. The phone number is (928) 474-3835.

Domino Divas

The Divas have resumed their get-togethers. The group meets at 1 p. m. every Wednesday at the Tonto Village Fire Station meeting room.

There is a small lunch before play begins, so bring some sort of snack to share with the rest of the ladies.

Birthdays, etc.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, Garah Monnich of Star Valley will add another candle to her birthday cake. Garah is a member of the Hellsgate Fire Board. Happy birthday to you, Garah.

On Jan. 20, Gary and Joan Norem of Tonto Village III will observe their 24th wedding anniversary. Gary is also the chairman of the Hellsgate Fire Board.

The 24th wedding anniversary is commemorated by a musical instrument. Got any ideas Gary?

Double D Doings

Save your Sunday afternoons for the beginning of the pool tournaments. The game will be eight-ball and the play will be open to both men and women. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first and second place winners. Dust off those pool sticks, and mosey on down to the Double D at 2 p.m.
