Tonto Village got rain! According to one of our residents, Curt, we received more than a half an inch all totaled — really not enough to make a huge difference, but enough to dampen the dust and give the land a small amount of moisture.
Bear Flat has had a total of 1.26 inches of rainfall so far this year.
Bear Flat resident Denny Kindler is now at Banner Gateway Hospital receiving radiation treatments for thyroid cancer. He would enjoy visitors — his room number is 1407. Get well wishes to Denny.
Tonto Village Parade
The rain did not dampen the spirit of the residents of the Village on Saturday. The Anything Goes Parade was a huge success with all kinds of entries and all carried the U.S. flag.
Quads were all decked out, some of them hauling floats with streamers and people. The Hellsgate Fire Department led the parade with sirens blaring on the engines. The kids really enjoyed seeing the fire engines. Some of the float riders threw out candy.
After the parade, everyone meandered over to the Double D and one of the patrons was handing out cupcakes for the kids. The restaurant grilled hot dogs while Lynda St. John entertained the crowd. All in all, the day was reminiscent of years gone by when the parade was an annual event. Hopefully the tradition will continue next year.
Shelby School will be hosting an Open House from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday, July 28. Parents and children are invited to visit the campus, meet the teachers and check out the classrooms. Registration will also be taken.
Hellsgate Fire Department
The Hellsgate Fire Board held a meeting in Tonto Village on Wednesday, July 9. One of the topics up for discussion was the progress of the new fire station in Tonto Village.
The Hellsgate Fireflies’ regular monthly meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 18 at Star Valley fire station. If there are ladies who don’t drive at night, call President Karen Carlen, (928) 472-7438, and a ride will be provided.
Double D doings
There will be a potluck on Sunday, July 13 for everyone with July birthdays. The food will be served at 2 p.m. So if you are adding another year this month, head on over and celebrate.
On July 14, Janice Long of the Long Ranch on the Control Road, will add another candle. Nick Fitch of Tonto Village III is another July person. He will be adding another candle on July 16, and so will Tonto Village II resident, Sam Coe — on the same day.
To all birthday people: Go ahead and make a wish. You’re proof they do come true. Happy birthday to all.
A few chuckles for the week
Things I have learned over the years:
• I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes.
• Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
• There are two kinds of pedestrians — the quick and the dead.
Have a great week!
