Jeff Kelly shot 67 to win the low gross title in the Payson Men’s Golf Association’s Individual Lo Net Tournament on May 28 at Payson Golf Course.
Larry Smith shot 64 and won a scorecard tiebreaker with Terry Lindsey to claim the A Flight low net crown. Mike Anderson’s 64 won the B Flight, with Lou Mangiello (67) taking second on a scorecard tiebreaker with Mike McKee (67), who wound up third.
In C Flight competition, Popeye Clay’s 64 won the day. Jerry McGuire (67) placed second and Richard Harding (68) third. Dave Rutter was the D Flight champion with a 66. Ed Kuhns (70) took second and Don Gyde (71) third.
Gary Campbell found the cup from 39 feet, 4 inches on No. 18 to win longest putt.
Claiming closest-to-the-pin honors were: Larry Smith (No. 2, 11-3), Terry Lindsey (No. 5, 16-2), Mike Eilenfeldt (No. 8, 4-5), Dan Dorough (No. 14, 6-8 1/2) and Oscar Garcia (No. 17, 3-8).
And last but not least is this news about Frank Szakal, who took low gross honors by shooting his age — 72 — in the PMGA event on May 21.
