This year we presented four outstanding Memorial Day tributes in our high country region. Each were unique unto themselves and were befitting the occasion. There was an excellent story in the Roundup newspaper about our Pioneer Cemetery tribute and I am confident that our citizens who were unable to attend the events, will share by the newspaper coverage, for that we sincerely thank you.
On behalf of the Payson Patriotic Events Committee and the Town of Payson I wish to highlight what our high country region accomplished to honor our veterans on Memorial Day 2014. Four tributes were presented, two on Sunday 25 May and two on Monday 26 May. All were in keeping with tradition and honored all our veterans past, present and future.
These events do not happen by accident. They are the result of the collective effort of many dedicated and talented citizens. The Payson Patriotic Events Committee would like to thank the following: The folks at our Pioneer Cemetery who tend to the cemetery and place the flags on the gravesites at appropriate times; Messinger Payson Funeral Home for sponsoring and supporting the tribute at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park; the VFW, American Legion, Marine Corps League; the Tonto Apache Tribe, Tribal Council and the staff and employees of the Mazatzal Casino; the Civil Air Patrol Cadets and the Payson Military Honor Guard; and all who shared their thoughts with those present at the Veterans Memorial in Green Valley Park. A special thanks to Luann Carpino who fulfilled the role of master of ceremonies and those who provided the excellent sound system and logistic support. And most of all, a very special thank you to all who participated by attending, local citizens, regional folks and those who came from far places to be with us on this very special occasion.
Our community is fortunate to have such caring and sharing friends, neighbors and American patriots who are willing to step forward and contribute their time and efforts to helping “make a difference.”
