Payson Care Center is located just west of Payson Regional Medical Center at 107 E. Lone Pine Dr. Payson Care Center is a post-acute care facility offering skilled nursing and therapy services to patients after surgery or illness. The facility’s staff prides itself in the ability to care for higher acuity patients serving Payson and all of Northern Arizona.

The Payson Care Center Therapy team has repeatedly won the Gold Standard of Excellence Award by its parent company Life Care Centers of America. Under the leadership of Jaden Rosser, director of nursing, Payson Care Center also received a deficiency free survey on its 2013 State Inspection. The facility has also won Southwest Division Awards that include Best Customer Service and two of its employees, Ulus Jordan and Christy VanderMolen, won back-to-back Division Awards for Best Team Spirit. Diane Williams, assistant business office manager, recently won the Southwest Division Whatever it Takes award for outstanding service above and beyond to patients and their families. Payson Care Center’s achievements are not limited to the corporate level; it has also been voted Best Long Term Care Facility four years in a row by the Payson Roundup readers poll, Best of Rim Country.

Opening its doors in 1986, Payson Care Center offers a “tradition of care” for Payson and the Rim Country. Licensed to accept 121 patients Payson Care Center also offers long term care services and a secured unit for residents with Alzheimer’s disease. The facility recently completed a major renovation that included painting the interior, adding new furniture and décor items, new flat screen TVs and furniture in patient rooms and new directional signage to assist visitors in the building.

A new rehab gym is to be completed in 2014. The property just west of Alpine Urology was recently purchased and there are plans to eventually re-route the entry to the Payson Care Center off of East Frontier Street.

Payson Care Center also recently welcomed a new Executive Director, Jason “Norm” Norman, who has roots in the community. Son of Jim and Connie Norman of the local popular band, Junction 87, Norm and his young family are enjoying the benefits of being close to Grandma and Grandpa.

Dr. Alan Michels has served as the Medical Director of Payson Care Center for the last two years and attends to the patients of local physicians who do not follow their patients at the local skilled nursing facilities. The physicians that are credentialed to follow their patients at Payson Care Center include Dr. John Vandruff, Dr. Christopher LeSueur, Dr. Kevin Raymer, Dr. Jaber Abawi, Dr. David Cluff, Dr. James Schouten, Dr. Jeannie Evans (and other Banner physicians). Local orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Patrick Harrison and Dr. David Darnell also follow the post surgery care of their patients at Payson Care Center as well as local surgeons Dr. Katherine Raymer and Dr. Alfonso Munoz.

Unique to Payson Care Center is their Joint Commission Accreditation status. Like Payson Regional Medical Center and most hospitals, this accreditation requires additional surveying and inspections to ensure that a “higher standard of care” is met. Additionally, the Joint Commission must credential the physicians that follow the care of their patients at Payson Care Center. It’s just one more way to ensure the quality of care patients receive at Payson Care Center.
