Thanks For Getting Blattner Pit Reopened

On behalf of the Kohl’s Tonto Creek Subdivision Homeowners Association (KRHOA), thank you so much to District 1 Gila County Supervisor Tommie Cline Martin for all your efforts to reopen the Blattner Pit in Preacher Canyon.

Residents in outlying communities such as ours, both full-time and seasonal, rely on the Blattner Pit to haul branches, pine needles, and other natural forest products resulting from clearing and maintaining their properties.

As a recognized Firewise community, KRHOA will once again be able to sponsor an annual cleanup day where residents can place forest waste alongside the road, with community volunteers (using their own trucks and trailers) collecting and disposing of this material at the Blattner Pit.

In our earlier letter to you, we urged you to use your position as supervisor for District 1 to find a creative solution to fund the Blattner Pit. We applaud you for responding to this challenge. In this era of actual and potential wildfires in which you have exercised critical leadership, it is refreshing that this small but vital resource will continue to be available to the residents of northern Gila County.

We wish you well with the remainder of the work to be done to prevent and mitigate wildfires.
