The Village

When is the wind going to stop? The weather is just going crazy. Isn’t it said somewhere that the winds are supposed to be in March? There have been objects flying around our yard for about three weeks now.

Even the hummingbirds are a bit disoriented; flying every which way. And with the feeders bobbing in the strong wind, it sure makes for difficult meal times.

Special Olympics of Arizona had its annual law enforcement-sponsored torch run and parade in Payson recently. Tonto Village’s own Jacquelin Karrys helped hold the banner in the Torch Parade down the Beeline. At the state track and field meets Jacquelin won a gold medal in the 100 meters. Former Tonto Village resident Todd Orr also participated in the event.

The forecast is for the weather to change to warmer temperatures by the end of the week. I sure hope so.

Shelby School

The students at the Shelby charter school have been very busy with rehearsals of their play, “Alice in Westerland.” The one-act play was performed Thursday, May 15 and at 12:30 p.m., today, Friday, May 16, it will be presented again at 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 16.

Director Elizabeth Fowler urges parents and family and friends to contact her to ensure seating since the capacity is limited. The school number is (928) 478-4706. The address for Shelby School is 235 W. Standage in Tonto Village.

Mead Ranch

I received an email from Mead Ranch resident Scherry Duncan this week regarding a critical water condition. Duncan states, “The lower Mead Ranch water storage tank has been leaking for years and never been fixed. The condition finally became critical Tuesday, May 6 when we lost the use of the tank and now only have the upper tank. The Mead Ranch water condition was stage 5 on May 6 and May 7 and (was) at stage 3 on Thursday, May 8. There are now hefty fines and will remain so until a patch can be welded, sometime within the next week.”

Duncan went on to say the condition of the Mead Ranch system has never been improved and the new owner has no plans to do any improvements. She said because of this position, the homeowners in Mead Ranch are protesting the 129 percent rate increase Payson Water Company proposed.

“If you need more information or a status update, please let me know. I’ll be happy to provide details before the deadline.” — Scherry Duncan, (928) 478-0639 or (602) 903-1003, email: scherryd@scherry.net.
