Community Breakfast Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church will hold it’s monthly Community Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Friday, Jan. 13. There is never a charge for the traditional American breakfast with eggs, coffee, hash browns, sausage, finished with biscuits and gravy.

Animal Welfare Thrift Shop First Friday sale Visit the Animal Welfare Thrift Shop January 6 for the monthly First Friday “half-off” merchandise sale. We are open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays and Mondays. The shop is at 434 S. Beeline Hwy., Suite B, C & D.   Proceeds benefit local animal rescue organizations. For more information on pick-ups and donations, call 928-951-2587.

Origami for Tweens The Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Rd., is starting a special program for tweens (ages 10-12) on origami. The program is from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. every other Thursday of each month, from Jan. 5 through March 30. Participants will learn a new origami technique and figure each week. Bell ringers still needed The Salvation Army in Payson is still in need of bell ringers for the holiday season – there are slots open now through Dec. 24. Shifts are two hours in length and collection sites are around town. To help out give John a call at 928-595-0517.

Payson Elks Lodge The members of the Payson Elks Lodge have so far completed 80 bags to take to the VA in Prescott for Christmas.  All donations of new sweats, T-shirts and slippers are due by Thursday, Dec. 15.

School concerts As always, schools in the Rim Country will be filled with holiday music at Christmas concerts. The tentative schedule for the programs: Payson - Julia Randall Elementary, 6 p.m., third grade, 7 p.m., fourth grade, Tuesday, Dec. 6; Payson Elementary School, 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7; Rim Country Middle School/Payson High School Choral Concert, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8; Payson High School/Rim Country Middle School Band Concert, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15; guitar concert, 6:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16. All concerts for Payson schools are in the auditorium on the Payson High School campus.

It is hosting a hiring event today only, from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, Dec. 2 at the Majestic Mountain Inn conference room. Book Fair The Julia Randall Elementary Book Fair takes place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., now through Dec. 2 in the JRE Library. It features books and more for children of all ages, including young adult readers. Plus it will have several days devoted to celebrating the mothers and fathers of the students. Muffins for Mom are featured Nov. 29 and 30, with Donuts for Dad on Dec. 1 and 2. There will be lots of books and fun-filled activities for the kids.
