Velma Mary Tainsh 1916 - 2008
Velma Mary Tainsh died Nov. 1, 2008.
She was born Oct. 8, 1916 in Providence, R.I.
She earned a master’s degree from Arizona State University and taught for 18 years in the Mesa school system.
Mrs. Tainsh was a member of the Mesa Family Bible Church and attended Payson Baptist.
She was an active member of the Payson Humane Society and served many years as president of its auxiliary.
Mrs. Tainsh and her husband were the leaders of the spay and neuter program.
The couple also led the S.O.S. (Save Our Shelter) matching fund-raiser which amazingly paid off the mortgage.
She made and donated many mosaics to Payson schools and churches.
Mrs. Tainsh is survived by her husband, Thomas Tainsh; daughter, Terri June Hamlin; son, Thomas Roy Tainsh; brother, George Underwood; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
At her request, no services will be held.
