Rose Ida Achilli 1910 - 2010
Rose Ida Achilli, a longtime resident of Payson, died April 16, 2010 in Petaluma, Calif. She was born Dec. 10, 1910 in Rosati, Mo., the daughter of Peter and Clementina DeLuca, who had come to the U.S. from Italy in 1905.
In the mid-1940s, she married Gene Piazza in Missouri and raised two children, Anthony and Carolyn. Later, she and the children moved to Los Angeles.
In 1979, she married Piero J. Achilli and moved to Payson.
Mrs. Achilli was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Payson, a member of The Mystical Rose Sodality and for many years an active auxiliary volunteer at Payson Regional Medical Center.
She and Piero enjoyed touring the many beautiful areas of Arizona, particularly the Mogollon Rim. They were well known for their uncanny success at finding Arizona mushrooms.
They were avid gardeners and took delight in sharing the fruits of their toils with friends. They thoroughly enjoyed many hours of playing gin rummy with their family, neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by Piero in 2007; and by four sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Achilli is survived by her son, Anthony (Kim) Piazza and family of Petaluma, Calif., with whom she resided after Piero’s death; and her daughter, Carolyn (Joe) Compobasso and family of Hemet, Calif. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She has been interred in Hemet, Calif.
