Margaret Camblos Kuzell
October 7, 1918 - November 27, 2008
Margaret Camblos Kuzell died Nov. 27, 2008 in Payson. She was born Oct. 7, 1918 in Washington, D.C., to Margaret Camblos and Manning Mason Pattillo.
She graduated from Interlaken Central High School, Interlaken, N.Y. in 1936. She was the senior class president and the valedictorian of her class. She then attended and graduated from the University of Southern California in 1940 with a bachelor’s of arts degree in speech. She was later employed by Sunset magazine.
At the end of World War II, she wanted to travel to Europe and took a job with the Department of Defense - State Department. She was assigned to Berlin, Germany, where she met Ralph Edward Kuzell, who was a West Point graduate stationed in Berlin. They were married in 1947 at a chapel in the Zehlendorf District of Berlin.
After 30 years of military life abroad and in the states, the couple retired to Flagstaff in 1971. Mrs. Kuzell attended St. Pius X Catholic Church where she was a choir member for many years. She was a past president of the Flagstaff Symphony Guild and a member of the board of directors of the Flagstaff Symphony Association.
She is survived by her brother, Dr. Manning Pattillo of Atlanta, Ga. and sister-in-law, Mary Kuzell Niznik of Peoria; four daughters, Mary Kuzell-Babbitt (Paul) of Flagstaff, Martha Cornelius (Bob) of Montrose, Colo., Madeline Kuzell-Giovando (KC) of Tonto Basin and Melissa Kuzell Bardsley of Flagstaff; seven grandchildren, Marney, Paul, Michelle, Melanie, Tatum, Ralph and Steven.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, and daughter, Margaret.
A family service was held Dec. 1 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home.
A Mass and interment will take place in mid- December at West Point Cemetery, N.Y.
