Darlene Gardner died Dec. 13, 2008 at RTA Hospice in Payson. She was born July 27, 1948 to Buster and Mary Gardner in Joplin, Mo.
She grew up in Duncan, Ariz. and married in August 1967. During the 27 years of her marriage, she raised four children: Madeline (Ben) Roach of Tucson, Gerald Shawn (Bert) Laney (deceased), Marlene (Michael) Armstrong of Payson and Mary Laney of Casa Grande.
She graduated from Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher. In addition to raising her children, she always held at least one job in order to help support her family. From waitress to ranch manager, she always held exciting jobs that she excelled at.
In 1989, Ms. Gardner moved to Idaho and fell in love with the majestic beauty. During the last of her working years, she worked on the Flying B ranch and enjoyed every minute of her adventure there.
She spent the last six months of her life living in Payson, enjoying her grandchildren, attending their various sporting activities and musical performances, attending Bible studies and playing cards with friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Gerald Shawn in 1993 and her father, Buster Gardner in 1998.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Gardner; brothers, William Gardner, Wayne (Kathy) Gardner and Delbert (Kim) Gardner; her children, Madeline Roach, Marlene (Michael) Armstrong and Mary Laney; grandchildren, Tori and David Lee, Michael Jr., Karessa, Eve and Margaret Armstrong, Shawn Laney, and Cindy and Paul Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 20 at the First Conservative Baptist Church in Duncan.
Memorial donations may be made to Ponderosa Baptist Church for the Payson Children’s Theatre/Choral Group. These donations will help ensure that children can continue to share the message of Christ through theater and choral productions.
