Mark Elijah Johnson

Mark Elijah Johnson, of Payson, died Nov. 13, 2008. He was born Nov. 8, 1977 in Payson and attended Payson Public School, graduating high school in 1996.
Mr. Johnson attended a semester at DeVry Institute in Phoenix.
Upon his return home, Mr. Johnson went to work at Mazatzal Casino as observer in surveillance for many years.
In 2007 he resigned this position for health reasons and for a time, he served as Tonto Apache Tribal gaming commissioner.
As of late, he had joined his mother’s newly formed Native American Health & Wellness Company as marketing representative and was excited about this new endeavor.
Mr. Johnson was known as considerate, kind and a gentle “giant.”
He is survived by his mother, Jeri Johnson-DeCola; father, Van Johnson; brothers, Calvin Johnson and Steven Johnson; sister, Belinda Guerra; aunts, uncles, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by older sisters, Jolene Johnson and Vanessa Mae Saunders.
A celebration of life was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the Tonto Apache Tribal gym, with burial following at the Tonto Apache Tribal Cemetery.
