Donald Prindle, 79, Jamestown, N.D., formerly of Payson, died Oct. 9, 2008. He was born July 16, 1929 in Park Ridge, Ill. to Leonard and Ethel (Umbach) Prindle.
He grew up and attended school in Park Ridge. After his schooling, he served in the United States Air Force from September 1947 to September 1951, achieving the rank of sergeant.
In 1954, he married Metta Mae Schreiber in Elgin, Ill., and they moved to California. Following his retirement, the couple moved to Payson, where in December 1990 he was critically injured in an auto accident, which claimed the life of his wife.
On April 1, 1992, he married Esther F. “Mickey” Boyer in Lake Tahoe, Nev. They lived in Payson until 2001 when they moved to Edgeley, N.D. and later to Jamestown, N.D.
Mr. Prindle enjoyed woodworking and was once known as the “shelf elf.” He also enjoyed playing cards, travel, bowling and working on creative projects.
He was an avid supporter of several veterans organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Mickey; a stepson, Patrick Axtell of Arizona; a granddaughter, Brittany Kay Axtell of Payson; one sister, Geraldine Buchholz of Rockford, Ill.; one brother, Robert Ronald Prindle of Brighton, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Metta Mae; brothers, Edgar Prindle, Albert Prindle, Leonard Prindle, George Prindle and Roy Prindle; and sisters, Marion Benson, Dorothy Prindle and Jacqueline Ramirez.
There will be no formal services.
