Longtime Gisela resident, Ted Tatum died Oct. 26, 2008 at his home in Gisela. Mr. Tatum was surrounded by family and others, including his wife of 49 years, Patricia Davis Tatum, a retired Julia Randall Elementary School teacher, his children and loved ones.
Theodore Tillman Tatum Sr. was born March 1, 1933 in Miami, Fla. and raised with two brothers in Brunswick, Ga. He was proud that his family hails from the famed Okefenokee Swamp south of Waycross, Ga.
In 1963, Mr. Tatum and his family moved to Arizona where he was promoted to state manager of the Woodmen of the World Fraternal Life Insurance Organization.
In 1967, the Tatums moved to Gisela where Mr. Tatum built a reputation as developer of the Gisela Ranches Subdivision, Gisela Steakhouse, and many activities in this area. Mr. Tatum was active in local politics for many years and hosted many notables at his place in Gisela.
He is survived by his brother, Bob of Brunswick Ga.; wife, Patricia Davis Tatum; sons, Ted (Kerry Rae) Tatum Jr. and Davis Edward (Dawn) Tatum; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Tatum and Ed; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 in front of the Gisela Community Church, with a potluck celebration following.
