Alice Doxey, 90, died Sept. 10, 2008 in Payson.
She graduated from Palmyra grade and high schools and attended Blackburn College in Carlinville and the University of Illinois in Champaign, where she received her master’s degree. She also attended the University of Arizona, where she worked on her doctorate degree.
Mrs. Doxey dedicated 36 years to teaching. She started her career in Macoupin County, Ill. and taught for Carlinville, Springfield and Decatur school districts and retired after teaching in the Oak Park school district.
She is survived by her son, Fred Van Bebber of Jacksonville Ill.; daughter-in-law, Lois Van Bebber of Jacksonville, Ill.; granddaughter, Heather of Milwaukee, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Esther Beile of Crete, Neb. and Lois Sameallas of Lexington, S.C.; as well as numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
