Marie Glissendorf died Aug 3, 2009. She was born June 5, 1915 in Madison Wis. She was the eldest of three children. She lived her childhood years in Madison and later moved to Hollywood, Calif. where she graduated from Hollywood High School with the class of 1927. Marie returned to Madison where she attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in bacteriology.
While studying in Madison, she met Wilmar E. Glissendorf who was born and raised in Phillips, Wis. He was a UW engineering student. They were married Aug. 29, 1940 at Luther Memorial Church by the Rev. Charles A. Puls. They lived on Leonard Street in Madison until 1952 when they moved to Gately Terrace in Westmorland, a Westside Madison neighborhood.
They raised four children, Richard E., Jerilyn E., Alan E. and Stephen E. Glissendorf. The family then moved to Waunona Way on Lake Monona in 1963 where they enjoyed lakeside living. They later moved to Phoenix and then Payson. Mr. Glissendorf died in 1981 and Mrs. Glissendorf remained in Payson where she was a longtime member of Mount Cross Lutheran Church. She was a wonderful painter, enjoyed camping and hiking and participating in many church activities.
She is survived by her sons, Alan (Joanne) of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Stephen of Payson; daughter, Jerilyn (Steve) of Gilbert; sister, Geraldine Nelson of Dundee, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8 at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 601 E. Highway 260 in Payson.
