Virginia Covey Boswell
1935 - 2009
Virginia Covey Boswell, 74, of Loves Park, Ill., formerly of Payson, died July 31, 2009 at her home.
Mrs. Boswell was born May 10, 1935, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of David and Alice Keyser Covey. She graduated from Peoria High School, attended the University of New Mexico, graduated from Bradley University, and received her master’s in education from the University of Illinois. She married Richard Boswell on Jan. 24, 1959, in Peoria, Ill.; he predeceased her in December 2006.
She taught English, literature, and creative writing at the high school and college levels. She wrote poetry greeting cards for 20 years for the Leanin’ Tree Co. of Boulder, Colo.
After retiring from teaching, she and her husband enjoyed an active retirement first in Phoenix, and then in Payson, where she was a dedicated volunteer at the Payson Public Library and active in the local chapter of P.E.O. She was a sponsor for Children Inc., a lifelong blood donor, a volunteer at Provena Cor Mariae Nursing Home and presented many poetry programs and workshops. Among her affiliations were Western Writers of America, Wyoming Writers, Friends of the Library and Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Susan Sinclair of Rockford, Ill. and Lynn (Bob) Ingogly of Rock Island, Ill.; grandchildren, Angela Sinclair of Rockford, Alice Ingogly and David Ingogly of Rock Island; and brother, John (Kay) Covey of Peoria, Ill.
Her parents also predeceased her.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 21 in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 Bell School Road, Rockford, Ill., with the Rev. Dr. David Smazik officiating.
