Ona Podvoiskis

Ona Podvoiskis, 79, passed away Aug. 13, 2009 in Surprise, Ariz.
She was born March 13, 1930 in Pazalojia, Lithuania to parents Jurgis Dienas and Else Auschraite. She met her husband, Pranas (Frank) Podvoiskis, through working at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. The couple had three sons — the first was born in Vancouver, the second was born in Port Alice. Around 1960, Frank and Ona and the boys left Canada to join Ona’s father in Australia. It was a long journey by ship, and their third son was born at Gepps Cross in Southern Australia.
Ona moved to the U.S. in 1980 and lived the last two years in a retirement community. Survivors include son David and wife Lisa of Pine, Ariz.; son Algis and wife Linda of Christchurch, New Zealand; granddaughters Gabrielle and Rose (Dean) of Wellington, New Zealand; and sister-in-law Aldona of Prescott, Ariz. She was preceded in death by husband Frank and son Chester.
A memorial service was held Aug. 16 in Surprise, Ariz.
