Genevieve “Jean” Gurnicz
December 1, 1924 - February 2, 2009
Genevieve “Jean” Gurnicz, 84, formerly of Payson, died Feb. 2, 2009 in Mesa. She was born Dec. 1, 1924 to Joseph and Frances (Szymanski) Kosirog in Chicago, Ill.
She married Jim Gurnicz on Dec. 1, 1942 and the couple moved to Indiana from Chicago after World War II.
They enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, traveling and making memories with their family. In 1959, they moved their family to Mesa.
Mrs. Gurnicz is survived by her four daughters, Carol (Richard) Meyer, Barbara (Dennis) Mandalfino, Joyce (Ron) Clifton and Janet (Michael) Bouche. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rick, Christine, Marcus, Bryan, Laura, Ben, Sarah and Jennifer; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Kusek of Mesa and Theresa Sorenson of Chicago, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; brother, Joe Kosirog; and sister, Eleanor Foronda.
Visitation was held at noon Friday, Feb. 6 at Melcher Mortuary Chapel of the Roses, 43 S. Stapley Drive in Mesa, with committal services at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 E. Baseline Road in Mesa.
