Josephine “Jo” Kelso
February 11, 1921 - February 13, 2009
Josephine “Jo” Kelso died Feb. 13, 2009 in Payson.
She was born Feb. 11, 1921 in Hammond, La. to Mary and Mike Latino.
The family lived and worked a 20-acre strawberry farm. She had six brothers and four sisters.
She moved to Oakland, Calif. with her parents and started working for a cannery, and then was employed by Western Skies and Westinghouse. She married Joseph Carini and they had a son, Jimmy.
She worked as a produce manager for Chabot Meat Market, where she met J.C. Kelso. On April 20, 1953, she married Mr. Kelso and became stepmother to Karen, Wendell and Mack.
In 1955, they moved to Stillwater, Okla. to help J.C.’s parents, Jesse and Linda Kelso. In 1958, they moved to Tucson.
Mrs. Kelso worked for Hughes Aircraft and Burr-Brown. They moved back to Glencoe, Okla. in 1971 and started farming on 10 acres. She had a large garden, which was the pride of Glencoe. They moved back to Arizona in 1986 for retirement. In 1987 they made their home in Payson.
Mrs. Kelso is survived by her son, Jimmy and his wife, Marcy; stepdaughter, Karen and her husband, Denny; her stepson’s wife, Becky Kelso; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
A visitation is scheduled at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, 302 W. Aero Drive, with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m.
