1924 - 2008
Gail Gardner, 84, of Payson, died Dec. 28, 2008 at RTA Hospice. She was born May 15, 1924 in Clinton, Ill.
She married Frank Gardner on July 26, 1942 in Old Monroe, Mo. The young couple crossed state lines to marry in Missouri because there was a waiting period in Illinois and Frank was on a short leave from the military. They borrowed $3 from Frank’s brother for the cost of the justice of the peace and the ring from his brother’s wife.
During their lives in the military, the couple moved a total of 42 times.
They came to Arizona, settling in Scottsdale in 1961, spending summers in Pine. In 2004 they made Payson their home.
Mrs. Gardner is survived by her husband of 66 years, Frank Gardner; sons, Mark Gardner of Pine and Steven Gardner of Virginia; grandchildren, James Gardner and Shawn Gardner of California, Gina Harms and David Alberti of Minnesota, Brittany Gardner of Glendale, Ariz. and Elizabeth Gardener of Oregon; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Charlie, Madeline, Christian and Emrick.
She was preceded in death by her daughter and best friend, Sue Alberti.
Interment is at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa.
The family will have a celebration of life from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 3 at the Gardner residence in Payson.
