Joe Carroll O’Hanlon
February 17, 1919 - June 29, 2009
Joe Carroll O’Hanlon died June 29, 2009. He was born Feb. 17, 1919 in Durant, Okla.
He attended Southeastern State University where he met and married Oneda McCluskey, his bride of 67 years.
Mr. O’Hanlon studied the Bible with great diligence and became a knowledgeable Bible student and soul winner. He recently said, “There is no greater mission in life than to witness to the lost souls about God’s saving Grace.”
Due to his health, Joe, Oneda and their children moved to the warmer climate of Phoenix in 1958. He founded Baseline Trading Center, which he operated until selling in 1981, when he and his wife returned to Oklahoma to care for their aging mothers.
In 1997, the children persuaded their parents to return to Arizona where they settled in Payson and became members of Ponderosa Baptist Church.
The Monday morning prayer meeting at Crosswinds Restaurant was one of Mr. O’Hanlon’s great joys. The men and the Bible study were a tremendous blessing to him. He missed it greatly when he could no longer attend.
Mr. O’Hanlon was housebound the last two years of his life due to his failing health. During this time he utilized the computer to write articles on Bible doctrine, entitled “Bible Truths” and distribute them across several states.
Mr. O’Hanlon is survived by his wife, Oneda; his five children, Mary O’Hanlon Artigue, Larry, Roger, Brian and Shelly O’Hanlon Sawyer; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family wishes to give special thanks to all for their prayers and concern, with a special remembrance to Dr. Michels, Tom Hughes, Caroline, Marilyn, Kathy and Chaplain Wilcox from Hospice Compassus.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 11 at Ponderosa Baptist Church, 1800 N. Beeline, Payson.
