Mr. Gassaway was a retired first sergeant with the Tucson Police Department. After retirement, he enjoyed many years as a fishing guide at Roosevelt Lake.
He was also a member of Tucson Masonic Lodge #4.

Culbertson. His special sister-in-law, Peggy Shumake and husband Don, who both gave tirelessly throughout his illness, also survive Mr. Gassaway.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Tonto Basin Baptist Church in Punkin Center, with Troy Grant, Don Shumake and Eric Woods officiating.
There wasn’t anything that he could not learn to do, and all the kids or grandchildren always wanted his used vehicles or tools because he was a perfectionist and took extremely good care of those things he had worked hard to obtain, his family writes. He loved his family and his two faithful schnauzers, Rowdy and Mindy. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Donations may be made to the Humane Society of Central Arizona, 812 S. McLane Road, Payson, AZ 85541.
