Bill Hartman, 80, of Payson, died May 3, 2009.
He is survived by his daughter, Carla Hartman; and son, William (Bill) Keith Hartman of Payson.
His wife, Wilma Jean, preceded him in death.
He was born Jan. 30, 1929 in Bedford, Ind. to Carl and Ruth Hartman. Bill had many accomplishments in his life. He managed a service station, worked for the railroads, and was a concrete contractor, a farmer, worked at a stone quarry, along with various other jobs. He managed the Elks Lodge in his hometown in Indiana and also in Payson for seven years.
Mr. Hartman moved to Payson in 1973. He worked with several contractors in Payson. His favorite job according to his children was working for Gila County as a plans examiner and building inspector. He worked full time for Gila County from 1984 to 1992. He was called back from retirement several times to work in the building department. He finally retired from the county in 1999.
Mr. Hartman was well known for being a man of his word, very knowledgeable in the trades, full of true grit, the salt of the earth and his many witticisms. He was well liked and loved by many in the community.
He will be greatly missed, but now joins his beloved Wilma Jean.
Per Mr. Hartman’s wishes there will be no service.
