Mary E. Johnson

Mary E. Johnson, 93, died Friday, May 8, 2009 at the Beatitudes Care Center in Phoenix. She was born Nov. 21, 1915 to Jack and Myrtle Reese. She attended Aberdeen, Miss. schools and upon completion of high school in 1934, she moved to Tupelo, Miss. to attend Draughon’s Business College.
On Nov. 22, 1939 she married William F. Johnson of Tupelo, who preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1990.
Along with their only child, Bill, they made their home in Tupelo, Miss. until October 1954, when they decided to spend the winter in Tucson. The rest of Mrs. Johnson’s life was primarily spent in the Arizona towns of Tucson, Phoenix and Payson. She was a very active member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Tupelo for many years. Wherever she lived, she was very active in a Baptist church teaching Sunday school. She read the Bible through many times.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 16 at the Verona Cemetery in Mississippi with Rev. David Eldridge officiating.
Mrs. West is survived by her son, Bill, and daughter-in-law, Judy, of Pinetop, Ariz.; grandchildren, Will Johnson of Boca Raton, Fla. and Liana (Keith) Bierman of Phoenix; and three great-granddaughters, Sarah, Anna and Kate Bierman, also of Phoenix.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Buddy, Edward and Ollie.
There will be no public visitation.
