Patricia Ruth Zent Sogan
Patricia Ruth Zent Sogan, 79, of Pine, died Sept. 23, 2009.
“The Good Lord must have asked for a volunteer and Pat answered his call because she was the epitome of a volunteer,” the family writes.
She served on the church board, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a candy striper at the Maricopa County Hospital and managed the information desk in the lobby. She was active in P.T.A. and a senior leader in the Campfire Girls and Den Mother in Cub Scouts, as well as Team Mother and scorekeeper in the Little League.
When the Pine Clinic opened she worked in the office to help things get organized and made many dolls to sell to help raise money to buy equipment. She was a wonderful quilter and donated quilts to the Pine library to raffle off to raise money to buy new books. She also made dozens of dolls and stuffed animals for the library and received special awards for her many contributions.
She was very active in Library Friends and received a Paid Lifetime Membership. The library was her favorite place. She spent 18 years as a volunteer worker there and hoped to serve 20 and was disappointed that she could not make that goal.
She was noted for taking food to people who were housebound and delivering food and presents to needy families at Christmas time.
She accomplished all these things while living with chronic asthma and difficult allergies. She was about the most pleasant and cheerful person you could meet.
“Those that knew Pat will remember the most distinct part of her personality was that she didn’t smile much; that’s because she was always laughing. No one enjoyed life more,” her family writes.
She was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. June 11, 1930, the daughter of Glenn and Mae Zent. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Harry; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Doug Canright of Ridgway, Colo.; son, Robert of Phoenix; sister and brother-in-law, Shelley and Russ Ford of Phoenix; and numerous nieces and nephews.
“We wish to thank all our relatives and friends for the kind words and beautiful cards. They all are a great help,” writes the family.

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
