Patrick Stephen Willis
Patrick Stephen Willis died Sept. 15, 2009 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Mesa, Ariz. to Tillman and Margery Willis. Growing up in Mesa, he attended Westwood High School and Mesa High School. After graduation, he attended Mesa Community College before receiving his draft papers to serve in Vietnam. Upon his return from war, he completed his bachelor’s degree at Northern Arizona University. He graduated with his master’s from Arizona State University in 1978.
Shortly after graduation he began his career in the banking industry. He was married March 15, 1980 to Marjorie Anderson. In 1986, they purchased a second home in Pine and in 1996 moved to Payson full time.
Mr. Willis’ career in banking is most noted for the community banks that he has brought to the Rim Country, starting with Founder’s Bank, Stockmen’s Bank, and First State Bank formerly Towne Bank of Arizona.
He served the community of Payson with many different roles for Mogollon Sporting Association, Payson Regional Medical Center, Payson Regional Economic Development Corporation, Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and the Vietnam War Memorial Wall.
He loved hunting, golfing, camping and banking.
Mr. Willis was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, Gary Willis.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; stepson, Jeffrey Anderson of Lakeside; brother, Jan Willis of Mesa; and two sisters, Shirley Lincoln of Tempe and Colleen Book of California.
