Anton L. “Wayne” Ruttum
Anton L. “Wayne” Ruttum died Sept. 16, 2009 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 80 years old and lived in Portland, Ore.
Mr. Ruttum was born March 21, 1929 in Hendricks, Minn., and was raised in Astoria, S.D. After graduating with a bachelor’s of degree in dairy science from South Dakota State University, he joined the Army and spent two years in Korea. He left San Francisco for Korea two weeks after the conflict ended.
In 1956, Mr. Ruttum joined his brothers in Salida, Colo., where they built a dairy foods processing and distribution business.
He married Betty Jean Kelly on Aug. 10, 1958 in Salida. They were married until her death in 2002.
Mr. Ruttum lived briefly in Canon City, Colo. before moving to Gunnison, Colo. in 1962.
His primary business was wholesale foods distribution, but he also was a cattle rancher and real estate developer. Other interests included golf, bowling, hunting and cards.
He and his wife retired to Payson in 1995.
He is survived by sons, Kurt Ruttum of Portland, Ore. and Scott Ruttum of Anchorage, Alaska; and four grandchildren, Hunter, Ric, Hallie and Reno.
His middle son, Greg, died in 2008.
