Sally Culwell, 67, died Sept. 18, 2009, in Payson. She was born in Tulsa, Okla. to Bill and Jimmye Ruth Barfield.
She grew up in Great Bend, Kan. where she graduated from Great Bend High School. She attended Cottey College in Missouri where she received her undergraduate degree.
She moved to Honolulu, Hawaii after college, and then returned to Tulsa, Okla. where she earned her double master’s degrees in audiology and speech pathology in 1972 from the University of Tulsa.
She married her soul mate, Don Culwell in 1981 in Tulsa. They moved to Payson with their cats in 1996. She started Rim Country Audiology in 2001.
Mrs. Culwell’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She had a passion for travel and adventure and was very fond of opera, gardening, cooking, playing the piano, reading and playing the slots.
She was extremely bright in mind and in spirit. She was eternally optimistic and a wonderful friend to everyone. She had an uncanny ability to make anyone feel welcomed and accepted, and had a unique sense of humor.
She was deeply loved and respected by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Culwell is survived by her husband, Don; sister, Susan Dillingham of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter, Christin Stansbury of Colorado Springs, Colo.; son, Brad Hammack of San Francisco, Calif.; daughter, Anne and her husband Steve Schmadl of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Cindy and her husband Chris Bennett of Rincon, Ga.; daughter, April Culwell of Cleveland, Ohio; daughter, Amber and her husband Mike Wu of Epsom, N.H.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cody and Landry Morgan and Eleanor and Emilia Ferrera.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 24 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Payson.
