Donna L. Garrels
1922 - 2010
Donna L. Garrels, formerly of Payson, died Dec. 2, 2010 in Scottsdale. She was born Sept. 7, 1922 in Nebraska to John and Hildred Lawson, who brought her to Arizona when she was just 2 years old.
Mrs. Garrels opened the Stockman Shop in the Valley in 1952 and expanded the business with a shop in Payson in 1954.
She married Rim Country pioneer son Ralph Garrels in 1956. Together, they retired to Payson in 1980.
Her parents, her husband, Ralph, and son, John Hollowell, preceded Mrs. Garrels in death.
Survivors include her sister, Verona Ackerman of Nashville, Tenn.; her daughter, Emily Connell of Scottsdale; grandchildren, Michelle and Bill Aubin, John Hollowell Jr., Jill Hollowell, Edith and John Sutorka, and Randy and Kim Ohlinger; and Mrs. Connell’s five grandchildren. Also surviving are Judy, David and Ralph Henry Garrels; and many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
