Richard “Dick” Eugene Kindig

Richard “Dick” Eugene Kindig of Strawberry, left his earthly body Dec. 25, 2010, at the age of 84. Mr. Kindig was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Rochester, Ind. on his grandfather’s farm by the Tippiecanoe River, to Rebecca Ellen Davidson Kindig and Roy Earl Kindig. He was raised on his parents’ farm in Rochester. He served in the Army in the Philippines during World War II as a heavy weapons expert.
Mr. Kindig moved to Phoenix in 1953 for the climate, working for the Reynolds Aluminum Company until 1984. He was married to Mary Sawyer, mother of his two beautiful daughters, Kathleen L. Kindig and Janet E. Kindig. His second wife was Rozann Seolas.
Mr. Kindig retired to his mountain home in Strawberry in 1984.
He is remembered as a lover of the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener and chicken rancher. He volunteered every Wednesday at the senior center in Pine for many years, and also served as a past president.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Kathleen Kindig and Janet Kindig of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Mary Somers of Fair Oaks, Calif.; niece, Peggy Saenz of Tucson; nephews, Steve Somers of Columbus, Ohio and Chuck Somers of Danville, Calif.; and many devoted cousins, neighbors and friends.
