August 22, 1917 - February 17, 2010
Walter Baughman was born Aug. 22, 1917 in Dunlap, Iowa, to Edna and Adelbert Baughman, the eldest of three sons. He died Feb. 17, 2010.
He married Norma Jean Dick on Oct. 20, 1938. Norma and Walter moved to Omaha, Neb. during World War II where he worked as a technician assembling B-26 aircraft at Offutt Air Force Base. For most of his career he was a mechanical technician employed by Novak Cadillac in Omaha for more than 30 years.
During that time he and Norma raised two sons, and Walter nearly single-handedly built three homes for his family. When he retired in 1983, he and Norma moved to Payson where he built two more homes, living in one for 26 years.
His hobbies included motorcycles, camping, fishing and woodworking. He continued woodworking for the rest of this life. He did volunteer work for his church and the hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Norma of Payson; sons, Gary (Jeanne) of Boulder, Colo. and Randal of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Heidi of Seattle, Wash., Eric of Omaha, Neb., David (Tiffany) of Oceanside, Calif., Scott (Minna) of Fremont, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, David’s daughter Stephanie, Heidi’s son Marshall, and Scott’s son Dhillon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bert and Paul; and grandson, Curt.
