April 27, 1948 - December 19, 2009
On Dec. 19, 2009 Marlene Hartwig returned to her maker after a long and courageous bout with cancer. She was born April 27, 1948 in Saginaw, Mich. to Edwin and Vera Gordon. Phoenix had been her primary residence since 1974, but she had found great peace, friends and comfort in Payson for most of the past eight years.
She is preceded in death by one son, Brian Hartwig; and survived by one son, Shawn Hartwig. Also surviving are long-time partner Mark Cotter and five grandchildren, Devon, Sydney, Madison, Shealee and Nicholas; as well as her cats, Paysie and Crazy. She also leaves behind all of those who have referred to her as Mom Hartwig and Grandma Marlene.
“She touched many with her unconditional love and friendship. She felt grateful for all the time she shared with friends and family. She will be remembered for the love she had for her home and garden in Payson and as a devoted mother, grandmother, partner, hard worker and a good friend,” writes her family.
A celebration of her life will be held at noon, Saturday, Jan. 9 at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road in Phoenix.
