Karolyn Olson MacLean 1935 - 2010

Karolyn Olson MacLean

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and longtime friend Karolyn Olson MacLean passed away after a brief battle with cancer peacefully on July 19, 2010 surrounded by her family. Born Dec. 9, 1935 in Wellington, Utah to Carl and Frankie Olson, Mrs. MacLean was raised in Wellington on the family farm. Overcoming her battle with polio at an early age, she continued on to graduate from Carbon High School.
On Oct. 19, 1955 Karolyn graced James MacLean, a sailor with the United States Navy, with her hand in marriage and they remained loving partners for 55 years.
The couple traveled the United States living from Rhode Island to California. Along the way she produced the pride and joys of her life, her four children.
Mrs. MacLean was an avid cook, known by her friends and family for her fabulous dishes. She also loved to sew, making quilts for each one of her great-grandchildren.
She loved to sing and especially enjoyed taking to song with her sisters.
Never having a lesson, Mrs. MacLean was a beautiful piano player. She was an active member of the Riff Raff Club in Pine/Strawberry, working tirelessly to support fund-raising and special events.
Her heart was as big as the ocean, never meeting a stranger. She was sweet, charming and caring and has many lifetime friends whose love for her will survive her in death, writes her family.
Mrs. MacLean is survived by her husband, James MacLean of Strawberry; four children, Jim (Evelyn) MacLean Price of Utah, Cindy (Chuck) Ackerman of Yorba Linda, Calif., Debbie (Carl) Weber of Wellington, Utah and Doug MacLean of Vernal, Utah; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; five sisters and three brothers, Joyce (Gary) Williams of Salt Lake City, Utah, Loretta (Tom) Ward, Jeneane (Butch) Powel and Marty (Rhonda) Olson, all of Wellington, Utah, Brenda (Doug) Knots of Ferron, Utah, Frank (Vonnie) Olson of Price, Utah, Karla (Mike) Park of Salt Lake City, Utah, Gordon (Jenny) Olson of Huntington, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Frankie Olson; and grandson, Charles Ackerman.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 26 at Mitchell’s Funeral Home in Price, Utah.
Donations may be made to Hospice Compassus, 511 S Mud Springs Rd., Payson, AZ 85541.
