Ruth (Ida Ruth Geren) Lacy was born in l922 to Julia and H.M. Geren. She grew up in El Dorado, Ark. and after high school attended Kalamazoo College in Michigan. In 1941 she finished nurse’s training at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. and served as an Army Nurse Corps cadet during World War II.
She married Watson Lacy in 1946 and moved to Palo Alto, Calif. where he was studying medicine. They spent the first 10 years of family life in an around Watsonville, Calif.
In 1959 the family moved to Arizona where Ruth and Watson operated a 12-bed hospital at the Grand Canyon for six years. They moved to Payson in 1966 and Ruth lived there for more than 35 years.
Her husband died in l991.
Mrs. Lacy is survived by three sons, John Lacy, George Lacy and Mark Lacy; three daughters, Jenny Edminster, Sylvia Sandoval and Mary Reiland, as well as 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are planned at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Payson Community Presbyterian Church.
