Barbara Anne Battin
June 28, 1929 - July 17, 2011
Barbara Anne Waite Battin, 82, passed away July 17 in Payson, Ariz. She was born June 28, 1929 in Los Angeles, Calif. and adopted by Lyle Leroy Waite and Leona Weaver Waite.
She married La Verne Stoddard Battin on May 7, 1949 in North Hollywood, Calif. They were happily married for 62 years.
Mrs. Battin graduated in 1947 from Glendale High School in Glendale, Calif. She worked for many years as a dental assistant in La Crescenta, Calif. and raised two sons. She was very active in church activities including singing in choirs, helping with the Ladies Missionary Circle and assisting in the startup of Grace Baptist Church of Newhall, Calif. She enjoyed embroidery, reading and travel. She considered her greatest accomplishments being a good wife, mother and honoring God.
Mrs. Battin and her husband Vern retired to Strawberry, Ariz. in 1991 and enjoyed 20 memorable years of active participation in community affairs and church involvement at Strawberry Chapel in the Pines.
She is survived by her husband, Vern S. Battin; and her two sons, Michael Dean Battin and his wife Linda May of Chino Hills, Calif. and Lawrence Eugene Battin and his wife Charleen Diane of Tujunga, Calif. Also three grandchildren survive, Jeremy Michael Battin and his wife Nicole Aileen of Jacksonville, Fla., Emily Michelle Battin and Curtis Lawrence Battin of Tujunga, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Zechariah Matthew and Madison Lynn Battin of Jacksonville, Fla.
Mrs. Battin was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Jack Leroy Waite.
The family gives special thanks to her dedicated caregivers at Rim Country Health and Retirement Community.
A memorial service to celebrate her life is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Strawberry Chapel in the Pines, 8579 Fossil Creek Road, Strawberry, Ariz.
