Dovie Mae Watkins

Dovie Mae Hefner Watkins, 98, of Payson, passed away Nov. 28, 2011. She was born Aug. 9, 1913 in Eufaula, Okla., and came to Arizona in 1927 with her mother, father and 11 brothers and sisters.
She married Kim Watkins in 1929, eight days prior to her 16th birthday. They were married until his death in 1988.
Mrs. Watkins was an amazing woman, dearly loved by all that knew her, writes her family.
She resided in the Phoenix area most of her life. In the early 1970s she worked in Payson at the Roundup Drive-In for daughter, Lillian and son-in-law, Ted for three years. She then returned to Phoenix until moving back to Payson again in 1994, where she resided until her death.
She was known for her hand-stitched quilts, which she made for her children and grandchildren. She loved to quilt and was making quilt blocks two weeks prior to her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kim; daughter, Virginia Wiley; son, Gerald and grandsons, Neil Wiley and Scott Watkins.
She is survived by sons, Kim (Pat) and Kenny; daughters, Lillian (Ted) Pettet and Judy (Brad) Smith. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister.
She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, 901 S. Westerly, Payson, and a funeral service will also be held at Messinger at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 10. Burial will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10 at Resthaven Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, Ariz.
