Joseph Francis Gasiel

Joseph Francis Gasiel died Sunday evening, Jan. 9, 2011 at Hospice Compassus in Payson. He was born May 23, 1934 in Chicago, Ill.
He was an Army veteran and a graduate of De Vry Institute in Chicago. He worked for FAWN Engineering in Des Moines, Iowa as a design engineer of vending machines. He also farmed in Madison County, Iowa.
He retired in 1997 to Payson and spent his retirement years devoting much time to helping the needy. He served on the board of Habitat for Humanity, was president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and inaugurated the annual golf tournament to benefit the Rim Country Food Bank. He also taught high school religion classes for several years at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.
Mr. Gasiel is survived by his wife of 19 years, Joanne; daughter, Charis Bindel and granddaughter, Jadyn of Winterset, Iowa; brother, Alex Gasiel of Palos Park, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
The rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 13 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, Payson.
