Betty Lou Lusson
February 17, 1930 - January 14, 2011
Betty Lou Lusson was born Feb. 17, 1930 in Battle Creek, Mich. and passed away Jan. 14, 2011 in Payson.
Her family moved to Nashville, Tenn. when she was an infant and lived there until she moved to Phoenix in 1947. She left Tennessee after her junior year in high school; she saved money and finished her senior year at Phoenix Union High School. Mrs. Lusson met Bob Lusson at a trailer park in Phoenix and they married on Dec. 31, 1949. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
They have three children, Deborah Dawson, Kathy Thickey and Robert Lusson; seven grandchildren, Paul, Michael and Julie Hannum (Julie preceded Betty in death), Chelsea Worsley, Charity and Chase Thickey, Nicole and Colby Lusson; and six great-grandchildren, Grace, Luke, Dakota, Ashtyn, Haven and Lincoln Hannum.
Mrs. Lusson started working at Phoenix Title in 1950 and continued for different companies until 1991.
She served with the choir of North Phoenix Baptist Church for eight years. When she retired in 1991, she moved to Christopher Creek. She joined Christopher Kohl’s Fire Department in 1995, went to school to become an EMT and later an IEMT. She drove to Sedona over snow-packed roads week after week to take a bridge class to get the necessary cardiac training for an upgrade to her EMT certifications. Mrs. Lusson retired in 2006 from the fire department.
She took an international tour with her friend Gladys Sutterlin of seven countries, including the Holy Land, and spent many weekends at Saguaro Lake with her friends, Sam and Joan Sinclair.
Her hobbies included fishing (every chance she got), tennis, snow and water skiing. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. Mrs. Lusson survived heart surgery on July 18, 2000, which gave her many more years with her loved ones. She loved the Lord, her family and her animals with all her heart, and she was surrounded by love at the end of her life, writes her family.
There will be a potluck luncheon to celebrate her life at noon, Saturday, Jan. 29 at Christopher Creek Bible Church. Please contact Debbie at (928) 478-0788 for arrangements, questions or directions.
