May 29, 1946 - January 17, 2011
Barbara Ann Fear-Romero, age 64, passed away, Jan. 17, 2011 at Rim Country Health and Retirement Community in Payson, after a long battle with COPD. She was born May 29, 1946 in Flagstaff, and was the daughter of the late Harry and Dorothy Lester of Payson.
Barbara moved with her family to Fort Apache and lived in Whiteriver, where she graduated from high school. Her family later moved to Payson, and she moved to New Mexico and then returned to Payson where she resided for the past 25 years.
She worked many hard labor jobs in her lifetime, including operating her own house cleaning business in Pinetop and also landscaping for close friend, Chuck Jackman here in Payson.
Barbara was an active Moose member and loved life, people and working hard. She enjoyed gardening; working with her plants and always said that she was happiest when digging in the dirt. Her greatest pleasure was reading, collecting books and elephants. She loved animals and deeply missed her three dogs that passed, Bonnie, Clyde and Copper.
Barbara is survived by her closest loving family member, Michelle “Mush” Daly of Payson; aunt, Patsy Broome of Gisela; sister-in-law, Terri Lester of Pinetop; cousins, Edward and Zana Rathjen of Payson and Wilford and Patty Romero of Santa Fe, N.M.; daughter, Lisa Sams of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Dorothy; brother, Richard Lester; sister, Zana McMahan; and son, Gary Romero.
Her family will dearly miss her, all of her stories, her laughter and her endless smile. She is with the Lord now, soaring high above.
Barbara will be laid to rest next to her mother and father in Payson in a private service.
