Mary Katherine Green
September 27, 1924 - January 16, 2011
Mary Katherine Green, age 86, a seven-year resident of Sierra Vista, passed away Jan. 16, 2011 at the Life Care Center in Sierra Vista.
She was born Sept. 27, 1924 in Lincoln, Ill. to Guy and Lorene Webb. After graduating from high school, she worked in a factory supporting the World War II effort, which after the war became a cosmetics factory.
Mrs. Green and her family moved to the Phoenix area in the early 1960s where she worked as an electronics assembler for Motorola for many years, working mostly on equipment being built for NASA. One of her proudest achievements was being involved in making equipment that sent pictures back on Apollo 11’s successful achievement of man’s first landing on the moon.
After retiring, Mary and her husband Fred were very active in the Lutheran Church in Payson and she spent a lot of her spare time creating crochet works of art.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her husbands Glenn Bailey Sr. and Fred Green. She is survived by her son, Glenn (Maudie) Bailey of Sierra Vista; daughter, Donna Baronick of Peoria; grandchildren, Mike (Samantha) Baronick of Tempe, Steve Baronick of Phoenix, Anjanette (Kevin) Stepisnik of Cornelius, Ore. and Katherine (Ryan) La Motte of Sierra Vista; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2145 S. Coronado Dr., Sierra Vista. Pastor Arlo Janssen will officiate.
