Jeanne Marie Amundson
1933 - 2011
Jeanne Marie Amundson arrived at her eternal home on June 29, 2011. She was born on the breakwaters of the Atlantic Ocean in the Bronx in New York City on May 8, 1933 and has excelled her way through life by being and doing the extraordinary. She excelled in swimming and salesmanship to the excess of not needing to attend many high school classes.
Her parents, Eugene and Edna Manning, hesitantly allowed her to go to the “Wild West” upon graduation from Evander Childs High School in New York City to Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. where she soon earned a bachelor’s of science degree in secondary education. She married John Mentzer in 1956 and continued her education, earning a master’s degree in elementary education in 1968.
She has been a teacher and leader all of her life. Teaching from preschool through college level courses.
She was very involved in the real estate business in Lansing, Mich. as a broker and real estate law instructor at Lansing Community College. From July of 1981 through June of 1987 she served as a professional member of the Michigan Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons. She was appointed by the governor in 1985 to serve as the chairperson of that board and chaired through June of 1987.
She worked for Educational Testing Services as a test writer for real estate license law courses administered in many of the United States. She represented Michigan for many years at the National Association of License Law Officials.
She had been the owner, president and principal of many real estate companies and private and publicly traded entities.
She served as corporate secretary for MG Natural Resources and was co-owner of MG Quarries for several years.
When she and her husband moved to Payson, Ariz. in 2003, Mrs. Amundson became her husband’s business partner with ServiceMaster In the Pines and Rim Country Remodel & Repair Construction Company.
She was instrumental in the founding of The Payson Bible Fellowship in July of 2006 and served for several years as secretary and treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Edna Manning; her former husband, John Mentzer, who went to be with the Lord a year ago; and her brother, Warren Manning, who went to heaven in April of 2003.
Her husband, Mike Amundson lost his best friend. Mike and Jeanne were together for 25 years, loving, laughing, working, building, cruising, boating, fishing, camping and loving life. Mrs. Amundson is also survived by her sister-in-law, Claire Manning; her children, Ray (Sue) Mentzer, and their sons, Matthew and Jeremy, Lynne (Dan) Mentzer, and Paul Mentzer. She is also survived by Mike’s three daughters, Mindy (Jim) Mikrut and their son Logan, Kayla (James) McGhee and their daughters, Kenya and KaRina, Mistin (Dennis) Wilkinson and their children, Ciara, Tikvah, Darve and Jemma. Also surviving are a niece, Lorraine Fata and her family; nephew, Bruce Manning; and stepsisters, Judy Koenen and Gail Christianson.
Her favorite book was “Heaven Is For Real,” by Todd Burpo, which will be given to attendees of her memorial service at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 30 at Messinger Funeral Home, 901 S. Westerly Road in Payson.
Mrs. Amundson was an animal lover and was especially fond of dogs. She was preceded in death by Cleo, Pearly Mae Dawg and Betsey the Bassett. She is survived by Teenee, Beannie and Bammie, her very much loved miniature dachshunds. Donations may be made in her honor to the Humane Society of Central Arizona, 812 S.
