Ezra V. Peace
May 18, 1924 - June 16, 2011
Ezra V. Peace was born May 18, 1924 in Clint, Texas to Will and Myrtle Peace. He went home to be with his Lord on June 16, 2011. At the age of 3 his family moved to Globe and a year later moved to Pleasant Valley, Ariz. where he was raised.
He served with the Army in World War II in the South Pacific. He married his wife of 65 years, Norma Jean Haught on May 15, 1946.
Mr. Peace worked many jobs through the years. He worked as a cowboy growing up in Pleasant Valley and later in Tonto Basin. He worked drilling wells; in construction building houses; he worked for Kaibab Lumber in Payson cutting and hauling logs; he was a heavy equipment operator; owned the Payson Liquor Store; was a dispatcher and constable for Gila County Sheriff’s Office in Payson and retired as justice of the peace in Payson after 20 years of service.
Mr. Peace is survived by his wife, Norma Jean; brother, Edwin Peace; son, Boyd Peace; daughter, Verna (Peace) Cox (husband Larry); six grandchildren, Chelle (Cox) Hoey (husband Jimmy), Cheryl Cox, Brenda (Peace) Kirschbaum (husband John), Will Peace, Aaron Peace and Jamie (Peace) Kester. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Boyd Alexander, JJ Hoey, McKennah and Kylan Kirschbaum, Anna, Bella and Noah Peace, Matthew and Briauna Kester; and many nephews and nieces.
A visitation was held at the new Messinger Mortuary Chapel, 901 S. Westerly Rd., Payson, Tuesday, June 21, with graveside services Wednesday, June 22 at the Payson Pioneer Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Rim Country Hospice Foundation of Payson or a charity of the donor’s choice.
